Jobs in Forestry


85% of CILA members have been affected by equipment operator shortages 

Based on past retirement and attrition rates, it is estimated that 30% (approx. 14,000) of workers will leave by 2020. 

In BC, it is forecast that between 10,000 and 30,000 workers will be needed by the end of the decade 

70% of wood harvested in B.C. is done by the forestry industry in the north.

CILA Contractors have reported low use of their equipment due to a lack of operators.
The BC Forestry sector is made up of approximately 48,000 people, or 29% of total Canadian employment in the industry.

The Canadian Forestry sector has high participation from an older work force; 51% of workers are over the age of 45.
